Psychology - Trauma or Triumph?

Image
I have come across many people who have said, "Dealing with mental health patients affects you. Or You can't work in this field if you have traumatic history/ gone through mental health issues." What do you think? The people who are working in mental health professionals don't have any traumatic history? They don't have any mental health issues that's why they are capable of working in this field?  If you are thinking about this, well! It is not what you think about it. Let me take you to ride how it feels like to be working as mental health professionals. What are concerns which need to be brought and worked when you are working in this field.  When I heard about this subject I didn't know what it meant. I just chose it because another option I didn't like, was economics. I started studying it for 11th and 12th. I felt okay kinda feeling. Just like you get introduced to a new person. During my Bachelor's degree I chose and found multiple streams...

How much confidence you should have on your decision?  We make certain decisions and leave it in between, just because we are tackled by people to drop the decisions we have made. In another way say that we can't stay much confident on our own decisions. Do you really think we should be confident on our decisions? If yes, to what extent you should be confident?  I had just completed my 10th standard, when I was confused what career to choose. Since childhood I had a dream to become a teacher. My parents tried their best to either do my admission in Science or Commerce. Unluckily my father couldn't do it, because I had got less percentage and I was not eligible for those streams. Finally I choose Arts. While the admission procedure was going on, the teacher asked me, "What subject do you want, Economics or Psychology?" I never even heard a word known as Psychology. I just skipped Economics, because I hated Maths. As I got to know about Psychology. It dragged my inter...

Is It Possible To Lose Yourself After Finding Yourself?

Image
What if life breaks you even if you know how to survive in the worst situations? Is that possible?   It took many years to find myself. Ah! Not my official identity, but the identity of my soul, which was lost many years ago. When I found myself, I started staying positive with each and everything. Everything seems beautiful when you see yourself as beautiful. That was my life in the past years.  Every worst to the worst situation made me keep going, without thinking whether I will win or lose the battles. I started living happily without looking for a reason to be happy. You can say, I was kind of a happy-go-lucky person. But I never knew that Tsunamis arrive without any warnings.  After 2 years, I started getting a lot of pressure from my personal life to college life. I thought this time too, I will take a break after completing my degree. But that never happened. My break went on delaying, due to continuous crises or downfalls in life. And finally, the pressure w...

How Do You Know That You Are Healing In Life?

Image
Healing is not a short process, it's a long process.  Few steps through which one goes thorough while healing:  1. One breaks down, thinking about the traumatic experiences. It might be one or many experiences.   2. He/She starts thinking about why it happened? Or Why me?  3. The person will search for a thing to express himself, and what he or she is going through. May it be words, music, movie or any other kind of artwork. Art is a form of expression.  4. The person tries to experiment with different things, searching for what makes them happy.  5. Some might get a reason to live or a reason to be happy.  6. Experimenting with several things, a person starts finding happiness in small things.  7. The person tries to explain one oneself how each past trauma or crisis, has helped them to build a better life.  8. The person accepts each part of their past (struggle, crises, traumas, sadness) 9. The person starts forgiving oneself and othe...

Difference Between Loneliness And Enjoying Self-Company

Image
People usually say, "We are not lonely, it is just that we love to be alone or we enjoy our own company". How far it is true? Once on a phone call, I started telling my friend that I love to be lonely. She said that loneliness isn't the term for that, you might be enjoying your own company. Never say that.  What is the difference between loneliness and enjoying one's own company?  Loneliness is an unpleasant and distressing experience. Loneliness is often seen as a negative state of feeling. It is a feeling, that a person can feel even after being surrounded by a crowd. If you remember, there might be moments when you had or have been still searching for a reason to involve yourself in some activity, so that you don't get that unpleasant or uneasy feeling within you. That is what loneliness feels like.  Even, there will be a phase of time, when you have enjoyed or are enjoying everything, having a great feeling despite being alone.  It was just when I was 18 years...

Is it easy to give advice?

Image
Many say, "It is easy to advise others, but difficult to follow by oneself." It is common these days that if something happens we are prepared to motivate the other person. There were times when sometimes I would find some of the close ones in trouble, which would automatically lead my inner soul to advise them. But in the end, all I could hear was, "It is easy to advise others, but difficult to follow by oneself."  Sometimes I would wonder if I was making a mistake by advising someone. It is not always about advising, sometimes it's an experience of a person, who had faced a similar situation and came out of it. Knowing the circumstances behind the situation, he/she always tries to save the person. Once, in between the conversation, I questioned my brother, " There are many motivational books and videos, but still why do we never fail to fall into problems?"  He replied, "No matter how many times you try to save people from falling, they won...

Why to put someone down, when we want to pull up somebody?

Image
How will you praise someone? By their qualities, hobbies, looks or by their personality... How will you make them  feel that they are great? Here it goes, the comparison. "You are better than this person." If you want to climb one step up, will you pull the other person down? No, one will either wait until the person climbs up or one will go besides the other person, without hurting them.  Sometimes, my closed ones say, "Your glow is better than her. I know she is fair, but being dark, you carry great smile, which she doesn't." To praise me, they will put someone down, which distracts me mentally a lot. We heard a lot not to compare ourselves to others. But, what if we start comparing the person to another person? Do you think it is a justice?  We feel good, when someone says that we are better than this person, but at the same time we don't realise that we are unconsciously putting someone down. We all say that everyone is better at their place. Then why do...
